plus Speciality

Julie Thompson is a , France. She received her B.Sc. (Hons) in Mathematics at Sheffield University in England and her PhD. in bioinformatics from Strasbourg University in France. After a number of years as a computer scientist in industry, she joined the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany where she first studied multiple sequence alignment algorithms and developed the program ClustalW/X in collaboration with the original authors. In 1995, she joined the IGBMC, where she continued her research on multiple sequence alignment construction and analysis algorithms. Her recent work has focused on problems of data integration and program interoperability in the increasing complex field of evolutionary informatics and evolutionary systems biology.

Academic positions:

Senior Research scientist at the Institute of Genetics and Molecular and Cellular Biology (IGBMC) in Strasbourg.

Research interests:

In silico protein analysis to investigate the relationships between sequence/structure and functions of proteins in cellular networks and their evolution. Applications in genome annotation and analysis, comparative genomics, protein network analysis in healthy and diseased systems.

What I think of the idea behind WebmedCentral and WebmedCentral plus:

The approach is an interesting alternative to established journals, where publication times are often long and the review process and acceptance criteria are not always clear.
