Biography:

Borned on 17th July 1940, medical graduation ( MBBS)in 1963 from GRMedical College, Gwalior,India , Residency in Surgery at PGIMER, Chandigarh 1964 -1969, Master of Surgery in 1966, Faculty Position at PGIMER 1970 -2002, retired as Sr. Prof. & Chairman, Dept of Surgery in 2002, practising as Senior Consultant in Surgery.  Additional training as Fellow in Royal Postgraduate Medical Schhol & Hammersmith Hospital, London, Kings College, London, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, New York, Postgraudate Med. School, Kolkata.

Have been Member / Fellow of a large no. of scientic organisations - Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow,(FRCS), American College of Surgeons (FACS), International College of Surgeons (FICS), American College of Gastro-enterology, (FACG), Fellow of Indian Academy of Medical Sciences (FAMS) etc.  

Have been continuously involved in PATIENT CARE ( General Suergey with special interest in Breast, GI, Endocrine Surgery, Abdominal Trauma) RESEARCH, POSTGRADUATE TEACHING & TRAINING and HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATION during my 38  years stay in Faculty of PGIMER. 

Have published 120 scientific articles in scientific journals. Have delivered a large no. of prestigious orations/ invited lectures/ instruction course lectures in India and abroad.Have participated in a large no. of conferences/ symposiums/panel discussions/postgraduate instruction courses, in the country and abroad, 

Have been involved in clinical research for the last 40 years, have guided about 25 postgraduate and doctoral thesis. Have been awarded by Govt. of india the most prestigious and outstanding research award in the field of medical sciences -Silver Jubilee Award for Outstanding Medical Research. The President of india also honoured me with Dr. B.C.Roy National Award of Eminent Medical Teacher. Have also received a large no. of awards from Association of Surgeons Of India and various State Surgical Societies.

Have Edited a Book "CONSENSUS IN BREAST CANCER" contributed by about 30 specialists drawn from all over India.

"CANCER" a health edcuation book written by me, has been published by Govt. of India agency; and already translated into 8 regional languages.

I have been also actively involved in Scientific Associations and held the positions of

*President Assocn of Surgeons of India - having 14,000 members,
*President Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology,
*President Chandigarh Surgical Society.

Presently I am practising as a Senior Consultant in Surgery

Faculty Member of Dept. of Surgery PGIMER, Joined as Lecturer in Surgery in 1970. Went on to become Asst. Prof. in Surgery, Associate Prof, Additional Prof, Professor of Surgery in 1992, Senior Professor in 1996 and then Chairman of Dept. of Surgery Was briefly in All India Inst. of Medical Sciences, New Delhi as Professor of Surgery in 1992 Was also sent on Foreign Service Deputation to Libya by Govt of India in 1974, and remained there for 5 years as Director of Surgical Departments, Obst. & Gynae, Ophthalmology & Oro-dental Services.

1. Breast diseases -  Breast Cancer 

2. Abdominal Trauma

3. Thyroid diseases - Thyroid Cancer

4. Cholelithiasis

Have been on Editorial board as Advisor on a few sceintific journals - Indian Journal of Surgery, Journal of Colo-Rectal Surgery, Hospital medic etc. 

What I think of the idea behind WebmedCentral and WebmedCentral plus:

I think it is an excellent idea, particlularly it will be easily accessible, on time, one can read it at any time without loading your brief case with journals. It will also follow  the golden rule of "Go Green " no more wastage of paper and hence less chopping of trees.
