Academic positions:

Present Title

1. I am presently the Professor and Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery, Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) and associated Lok Nayak Hospital (LNH), New Delhi. My present job entails independent responsibility of running a busy tertiary referral department with superspecialty (MCh) training program and having 80 beds and a separate neonatal surgical ICU of 8 beds with all the latest gadgetry and support systems including ventilators. The Department of Pediatric Surgery runs special clinics for Pediatric Urology, and Pediatric Gastrointestinal Surgery besides running out patient services for all 6 days a week. On average, 15000 patients are attended to in OPD annually and 1100 surgeries are performed annually.
2. I am responsible for the smooth and efficient functioning of my department. I am responsible for all the medical staff (1 Professor, 1 Associate Professor, 3 Assistant Professors, 1 post MCh Senior resident, 7 MCh students, and 6 Junior Resident doctors) working in my department.
3. I am responsible for the deployment and utilization of services of medical and clerical staff working under me. I keep the Medical Superintendent informed/take his/her approval in important matter in this regard.
4. I am responsible for maintaining the functional status of all equipments under my department and I promptly ensure that these equipment function smoothly /repaired and without lengthy downtime. I keep liaison with the company maintaining the machine, and officer in-charge of Maintenance & Repair officer in-charge of purchase in this regard.
5. I am responsible for the proper segregation and collection of hospital waste in my department as per the guidelines issued by CPCB and other authorities from time to time. A proper record is to be kept by me in this regard.
6. I am responsible for sanction of casual leave of staff working under me and I keep a record of leave. I make alternative arrangement in case an official proceeds on leave or their application is forwarded by them.
7. I assign duties to the other Head of Unit working under me from time to time.
8. I ensure that all serious patients admitted in their department are well attended and I keep Medical Superintendent informed about any event, which may affect the attention of press, higher administration authorities or Parliament.
9. I ensure that all records relating to patients especially the MLC cases are in order complete and is kept in safe custody.
10. I am responsible for the general upkeep, sanitation, cleanliness and availability of essential supplies in my department.
11. I am the designated authority on behalf of M.S. for issuing condemnation certificate to declare unserviceable, old & non functionary equipment / furniture etc. where all other sources of condemnation certification is not possible or available.
12. I organize teaching / training of MCh Students, undergraduates and postgraduate medical students and BSc. Nursing students / other staff of the department.
13. Any other duty assigned by M. S.
14. I am involved in many administrative activities of the Medical College and Hospital-Postgraduate Education Cell, Hospital Disability, Library committee, Security, Estates, Hospital Dharamshala, Purchase, Committee for MAMC Journal of Medical Sciences, Disaster Management committee.
